----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Seiichi, a boy who has always lived near a forest in the middle of a small town, grew up hearing stories of monsters and fairies. When the time came to start a new life, he moved to the city, unlucky enough to get lost in one of those areas inhabited by non-human beings. Will he get out of there? Or what decision will he make?

"Her fingers looked like little spider legs on my clothes."

Here I bring you the first novel I do in the Ren'Py program. I started this project while testing a layout and features of the program, but decided to go all the way and finish the novel.

*Some translation bugs fixed in the new version 0.9.5.

Saw Manlybad's video and got curious so wanted to give it a try. Was a very pleasant experience, Great Game, especially the music.

Me gusto mucho 😊 Gracias por traernos siempre contenido de calidad, y aunque te tardes bastante te estaremos esperando siempre ❤️🫂

I love it

(1 edit) (+4)

This was the first visual novel ive ever watched and im speechless. The thing i like the most is how the idea of a "perfect love" is shown in Koko, despite it not being a real thing contraty to what others believe. Eroraen if u read this, u changed my life. I played koko 4 times so far and it just gives me a form of comfort no other thing or person can. On the other hand it gives me that sad/empty feeling in my stomach knowing that a beautiful story such as this one could never take place in real life. I wish there was more content, lore or art drawings but i understand you are busy. Im just sad cause you are so underrated and not a lot of people know about you. Again, thank you Eroraen, you are amazing. I wish you nothing but the best!

W game, i love it. ty eroraen

Hi! Thank you for your game, it was a great story. The ending is exactly was wanted. Don't actually like the continuation of the story - Reiko... But that's another story. In overall the story, world, characters just awesome. Thanks once again, I'll leave a tip for sure for each game. Would be just awesome to see continuation of the Koko storyline.

(+1)

good but needs a good ending for blue haired girl

Y E S

I thought so too

(+1)

You create art, I've only played 4 of your games and all of them... I've loved them every moment, really my friend you're incredible, every story, every character with their way of being, every story everything is beautiful, I really hope you keep making more games like this, I loved it, you really feel in the character and that's something unique, congratulations on your great work :D

(+1)

Thank you very much! I hope you like the rest of the games too if you decide to play them, and I hope to improve more with time!
(。^▽^)

(+1)

So wholesome! Genuinely heart-warming, I would highly recommend this !!

(+2)

Holy sh*t dude, this is awesome!

(+3)

A question for Eroraen,
Hi! I will start by saying I love all of your games! My favorite is Dear Rebeca. Recently, I have been inspired to make my own game. I am starting to make art and learn how to use Ren'Py. The game will be about monsters, and will be free to download.

I would like to ask you, is it okay if I were to include Koko as an "easter egg" in the game? She will only appear shortly and I will make the art myself. I will also give you credit for the character.

If not, I will make a different character instead.  Thanks.

(+2)

Hello! I'm glad you liked my games so much.
You are welcome to use Koko or any of my characters as an easter egg. And if you give me credits, it's always appreciated, of course.
Also, if I can help you in any way, just let me know. I'm looking forward to seeing your work!  (^▽^)

Great game. Loved every minute playing it. The multiple endings shocked the hell out of me. 10/10

(+2)

also i found the music in this game quite good! If there is replayable OST that would be great as i remember someone told the thematic music is like a siren in the start and later on as trust become closer the song became more comforting and bittersweet (Manly yt comment). A really intricate detail uwu.

Spoiler question

why did koko kill seiichi at the bad end?

*Spoilers*

"If he can't be mine, he can't be anyone's".  That's how it could best be summed up, using the logic of a stress-filled monster. :P

(+1)

ahhh ok thanks! i read many youtube comments that were confused about this topic :p

(+1)

also i would like to ask if there is a soundtrack from the game? I love music as it brings nostalgia to me when i hear melodies from reminiscent games

I got the music from a free music site.
The author's name is Kayvi, and the song is ASYLUM vol.1.

(+1)

Do all the visual novels, including this, belong to one universe? Is there any more information on the girl who kills Seiichi in the trust-neither end?

Koko/Reiko/Void of Desire and the upcoming visual novel belong to the same world.
And if you mean the little girl who appears in one of the bad endings, I'm afraid not, there is no more information on that character.

(+2)

Looking forward for the new visual novel! Will it be from perspective from any known character, by the way? And for Void of Desire, I do see the story of Koko meeting Seiichi in the epilogue, but is there any information on her mom?

(+1)

The new visual novel will feature new characters. Although there may be references to previous ones, it is too early to say for sure (and not to make spoilers).
About Koko's mother, I think there was a line of dialogue from Lilieth talking about her. But I can't tell you from memory exactly where.

(1 edit) (+1)

There's something I keep thinking about. At the end when Koko leads Seiichi to the human part of the city, he accidentally bumps into the girl named Lune. Then Koko says that girl looks familiar. In Reiko if you ask Koko about her mother, she tells you her mother's eyes were brighter and more yellow. That matches the Lune's eyes. So there is a possibility that Lune is Koko's mother. Could it be?

(+4)

I'm afraid not, Lune is just a small reference to the protagonist of the first visual novel I did. There's a bit more about Koko's mother in Void of Desire if you're curious.
But good theory from your side!
(。^▽^)

(+1)

Really loved the game, it felt a lot more linear than ‘Void of Desire’, but I really love the relationship between Koko and Seiichi. Also the game really shows you that the demi-humans have a whole society, and really makes sense when looking back on ‘Void of Desire’ why you would naturally be scared of Demi Humans when some of them seem like complete predators. Sort of like spiders, where they react to what comes close to them.

The game really hits differently after seeing the Epilogue of ‘Void of Desire’ and knowing of the sequel to ‘Koko', you just know to trust her from the get go. I also really did not want to hurt her, especially when it seems all Koko has is affection for Seiichi and there is nothing malicious there.

Looking forward to playing the sequel next.

(+1)

i played through both koko and reiko can only recommend both titles

(+1)

creepy... classy...

(+2)

Great work!
(+1)

Thank you very much for your words and the video! :)

(+2)

i would like to ask a maybe spoiler question: how are the "Monsters" even allowed to live in human cities?  it would seem they, despite some adaption of human values ( wearing clothes?, living in houses with stuff) at their very base, behave truly like monsters.  it was mentioned in the game but with the extent of it showed in the game, it seems there was no real effort to change or be changed. i'm sorry if this was a lot and i completely understand if you don't want to answer. just thought about this for a bit.

(+1)

Spoilers and a bit of text:

There are many kinds of monsters. That's why Seiichi also asks this question to Koko or Miroku. Since some are more similar to humans in terms of reasoning, thinking, and so on. But others, on the other hand, are more wild or unstable, like the mantis, for example. Perhaps they do not have the same notion of good and evil, or even decide to abandon the idea of integrating into human civilization.

In Koko's case, she is more stable and human-like, so she can wear clothes and be practically like a normal person. But another monster of a different nature and form, perhaps even if it tries, may eventually succumb to its instinct and never be able to integrate 100%. That is why there are areas in the cities where they live more separated and in a more controlled way.

The monsters that are totally friendly and functional, live directly with humans despite the occasional instinctive rejection of some people (just as many monsters repudiate them). Those that don't, descend into the interior of such non-human zones. As I believe is also mentioned, the authorities may offer criminals as food, or directly, to fight each other without disturbing the humans on the other side.

In my last visual novel I mention a bit about that at the beginning as well. However, these are aspects that I haven't fully concretized or gone into too much depth yet. But maybe I will do it in the next one, because at the moment, I'm making the first sketches about a possible sequel.

If there is curiosity about that, I could try to explain more about the world or give more background/stories and that sort of thing. In a future visual novel or something.

Thanks for your comment and curiosity!

(+1)

I personally i would love to know any knowledge about the world in however way you decide.  i think the world you have built here and and in your other visual novels are much worthy of thought and reflection and are just awesome visual novels. though what you have said here makes me think of how much of a forced relationship between humans and monsters (if) it is or how much does one side have or don't against the other. thank you for making this truly, even if it does make feel a bit discomfited, ( perhaps the intention? not a problem in any case) thank you.

(+4)

It is a little late but, I have tried to correct and revise the text of the English translation. So, I hope that most of the errors of the first version are now fixed.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

(+2)

So overall, good job but i found few mistakes.

- addressing koko as he.

- some of the dialogues are played twice for no reason (for example when we enter the bedroom for the first time).

- misues of some words (for example "tell" instead of "call") but you are still able to tell what is the point/meaning of dialogue, as long as you speak English at an "communicative" level.

- few problems with assets but its pretty common so not a big deal overall.

- a lot of mistakes like Kok instead of Koko.

- a lot of translation errors.

Now, my personal experience with the game.

It was pretty fun tbh but im not a big fan of art style. The endings were okay, "good ending" was good but rest not anymore. Miroku ending was okay but way to short. And the "bad" ending... eee idk, i mean it makes that we die but it was just a little to fast for me. Of course it's just my opinion so if you disagree then... well... good for you i guess. Story... i think i like it but you could add some more depth into it.

so...

Art: 6,5/10

Story: 7/10

Playability: 7/10 (i didn't find any huge bugs but translation errors were pretty annoying)

Characters: 6/10

Would i like to see part 2? Sure why not, it might be really good.

(+4)

Thanks for your review!

As I have mentioned in other comments, this was one of the first times I made a visual novel. It was all unknown to me in terms of art and programming.

So, since I didn't think it would be very relevant either, I finished it quickly so I could apply what I learned in other projects. (Which is why there isn't much depth or there are such abrupt endings.)

It wasn't even going to have a translation, but I decided to try to do it fast. So, I apologize for all those translation errors.

I'll pay more attention to future translations (and fix mistakes with updates), learn how to do things better, like endings or giving time for story/character development, etc. If there was a second part of Koko, I will try to improve the mistakes I made in the first part.

Thanks for your feedback!

(+2)

I hope there will be a part 2 dude. I finished the game like 1 week ago

(+1)

Lol, I finished it 3 weeks ago, hope so too.

(3 edits) (+3)

Just want to thank you for this VN. Short yet intriguing, emotional and good. Especially liked artstyle of characters gloomy and grotesque, but still "cute". Shame that Miroku true intentions are not revealed, but game not about her after all.

Btw after completing  this game, I remember one h manga dirty me  with similar plot, took inspiration or just coincidence?))

(+3)

Thank you! I hope to do better in the future, and if Miroku shows up again, give her more importance.

To be honest, when I did Koko's story, it was unscripted. Every day I tried to draw something and write the story almost on the fly. Although I was inspired by the cover of a music album that I love to make Koko, or the trypophobia to make Miroku, etc. :P

(+2)

Hmm, what do you mean under "shows up again"? (thinking face)

(+1)

🤐 Who knows. But in the next vn, maybe someone will be mentioned at least. Koko or Miroku.

(+2)

Cant wait mate, keep it up!

(+2)

Hello Miroku-fan fella! :D

(3 edits) (+1)

I Found manga I wrote about is "Niji no Ori" (251608) if anyone is interested

The author is Kayvi.

Here you have his official channel (if I'm not mistaken):

Ah, I see you looped the first clip.

I gotta say, I've played a variety of visual novels. And while this was a little rough around the edges, it welled up an emotion from me that I have not felt from any other visual novel. The music choice, storyline, the small but sweet setting, the characters, all of it creates this atmosphere that is so relaxing and pure.

When I first downloaded the game I didn't expect much from an itch.io game, but needless to say I will never be thinking that again.

As for the rougher translations, while they do not take away from the story, they are missed opportunities to fully express the emotions and ideas you want to convey. I understand that there are translators who require payment, but there just as many fans of yours that would be more than willing to test-play, translate, etc. for free. For a smaller creator like you who is not able to afford "official translators", please rely on us. I personally would love to. It would be a great chance to engage the community as well!

Other than that, it's overall a fantastic game, and I hope to witness more of your talent in the future.

Please keep up the good work :3

(P.S If there's a way to access the looped versions where would I find them in the games files?)

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you! That encourages me a lot.

I take into account all the advice I have received since then, from the translation, to improving the endings, etc.

Regarding the music, I think that the files cannot be found in the game folder. I would recommend that you download them from the official page of the composer (here) (or here in direct link) and activate the option to play in loop from your music player.

But if for some reason you can't, tell me and I'll upload it myself to download it separately. ^^

(+2)

this game is so good underrated

(3 edits) (+1)

If Miroku successfully ran away with protag, what could have happened? Would Miroku just leave him alone after helping him, or would they start eventually dating each other?

(1 edit) (+1)

I installed the apk, but every time i open the app, i get a "downloading assets" screen, no matter how long i wait, the assets never seem to download

Also, Love this game, Really well made

(+1)

I haven't had any problems opening it, but I'll try exporting it again and uploading it anyway, just in case that solves the problem.

Sorry for the trouble!

(+2)

i love this game

(+2)

Cool game. I loved it, hoping to see more of your games in the future. :D

(+2)

This is the first visual novel Ive ever read. And I just wanna say its amazing. I love everything about it and its been stuck in my mind for the past week. I really hope there will be a sequel. Insanely good job 10/10!

(+1)

Thank you very much! It means a lot to me. :)

(+2)

Is there any chance of the game being posted as apk file or on other apps than google play on mobile, huawei users can't get it.

(+1)

I have uploaded the game in .apk format. Hope it works, if not, let me know so I can help you. ^^

(1 edit) (+2)

Umm some questions, will there like part 2? Or just more dialogues update after good ending? Im so corious if they will have a baby >:3

(+1)

Hope so! At least one sequel, to finish Koko's story and add more details. But I can't give much more details for now.

(+1)

Owh thanks to know, ill be waiting for next update, oh ya just some suggestion u can improve the art or makes it moving like animation, oh ya for da baby one, if that happen later on, u will use skipable dialogue text? Or u will add scene or dialogue while making it? (☞ ͡ ͡° ͜ ʖ ͡ ͡°)☞

It would be adult content but i would like to know, and anyway ill support chu! :3

(+2)

It's still too early to tell you anything for sure. After finishing my last vn, I've been working on some designs and trying to animate the characters. I'd like to give it a try, but maybe it consumes too many resources and ends up being worse than more traditional sprites. (Visual bugs, lag, etc). But I'll keep it in mind!

And you mean if I add "erotic" scenes? If that's what you mean, I don't think I'm going to add overly suggestive or explicit scenes for now. Unless it's necessary to emphasize a scene or part of the story, of course.

Thanks for your support!

(+1)

Thanks to know! :D

Ill be waiting for ur next update, keep it up! :3

(+2)

Dude,ur a genius making a game that every loner(including me) can play. I'm sure Ur gonna be well known

(1 edit) (+2)

Adding my review for the visual novel here, interesting that the reviews are not public by default on this website.

English review: Very nice art and ambience.
I like the general concept.
The alternate endings feel somewhat forced, or that we're missing a more detailed explanation of why the characters act the way they do; there are loose ends.
The characters are interesting, It'd be nice if they had more development.
The English version has some slight problems because the author seems to be learning the language still, but at no point it becomes so bad that you can't understand what it's trying to convey, it doesn't detract from the enjoyment of the work.
Overall, highly recommended! I enjoyed this a lot. Due to the loose ends and interesting characters and concept, I would very much like a sequel! 4/5

(+2)

Thanks for your review!

I am quite aware of the errors after reading some more reviews, and I keep them in mind so that in a possible sequel, as well as in future projects, I can improve in all those aspects. (Character development, translation, longer and better endings, etc.)

I really appreciate your opinion and I hope to do better with time.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks!

(+1)

Ahem. Im sorry, but I have more questions to you and its about Miroku again. Will this character be more developed? And if its not a secret where, in Koko 2 or Koko?

(+1)

Don't worry, you can ask anything you want.

Right now I'm doing a different vn. After finishing it, I have 2 ideas that I would like to do. 1 of them is for Koko.

I see something complicated to do a remake. Because I would have to redo everything from the beginning, as well as add some more content and also extend the game as if it were a sequel, and maybe it would be too much work. (Besides that, it maybe would be repetitive for those who already played the original story too).

For now, I see better the option of a sequel. I already have a slight idea about the plot, and until I read your comment, I hadn't considered adding Miroku.

Initially, I was only going to focus on Koko and another very "special" character. But, after reading you, I will try to make her appear and have some development. Although as I say, nothing is certain yet. But I will definitely keep her in mind.

(5 edits) (+1)

Thanks a lot!

(+1)

Miroku is really impressive. I think no one could do a feelings confession under knowing that you will get killed for doing an obvious trick with mind control.

(+2)

I just played this and enjoyed it a lot!
Dont get me wrong i liked it a lot but the translation has some rough edges, would you like some help on that regard?
I dont know aaany spanish but im oke with my english and if you would like i would love to smooth some of the sentences. Like more localisation than translation basically? like how some sentences are grammatically and wordwise correct but people dont use irl? that kinda stuff!
And again dont get me wrong, awesome game, and im not some kind of translator etc. the only previous translation work i have is some how to documents and a h game but i dont ask for anything back other than a thank you and a warm hug so anyway yea let me know great game koko 2 when?

(+1)

I'm glad that you liked it.

And I apologize for the translation errors, as I mentioned before, next time I will try to pay more attention and care to it. Translating more slowly and letting someone who speaks English test it before posting, etc.

I still can't say when Koko 2 will exist, haha. For now, I'm working on a different vn, while I think of good ideas for that hypothetical sequel.

Thank you!

(+1)

no need to apologise! most were minor anyway, as i said if you cant find anyone to be that who speaks english to test part let me know! i would gladly help as a proofreader :)

(+2)

I need help the game downloaded into a different language and I need help putting it to English. Please help me.
