I played this because of Manly

Good :

- A short but a fun one

- The horror and grotesqueness is just right. I don't really like Horror Anime VN's because some are unsettling for the wrong reasons or straight up gorefest ( the R18 ones are ugh ), Ironically I like Doki Doki, maybe because it's like just right.

- Koko is a great one

Bad :

- Some translation errors but that's nitpick

- Congrats, koko's nails just activated a little bit of my phobia XD ( Her nails are like daddy long legs )

Thanks for the feedback!

English is not my native language, so it is difficult for me to translate. But I'm trying to do everything in a more orderly and careful way to better check for translation errors in future visual novels. (I'm sorry!)📃

I can safely say this has become one of my all-time favorite visual novels, regardless of the proofreading mistakes and overall brevity.  Its executed very well and everything fits together almost flawlessly, and is overall a surprisingly wholesome experience for a horror visual novel. It's a 9/10 from me, some improvements can be made here and there (a bit of the writing in some of the ends could be added onto or changed a bit to match the character context a little more too), but as a whole, I'm candidly in love with it! Excellent work! Can't wait for more projects!

Also, though no worries at all if you aren't interested, if possible and fine with you, I'd like to help with the proofreading and English correction for this game or any other projects (free of charge, of course), I'm a huge fan of all the work you put into these games and am absolutely up for helping polish all more so the concluded experience is as orderly and even as possible. Let me know if you're interested and where I can contact you if you are, great work on everything once more!

(+2)

Thank you very much for your comment! To be honest, I am aware that in terms of the story, there is much room for improvement. Since it was the first vn that I did programming and that stuff, I wanted it not to be too extensive, to try to apply what I learned in another project. (I also didn't think so many people would like it, haha).

As I said in another comment, I would have liked to add another character, as well as make the dialogue longer, but I was afraid that it would be boring. (And that my drawing skills are not very good to represent the things that I would like and have in my mind).

Many times I have thought about the need to try to find someone to help me, whether it is testing that everything works well, the art, etc. But I can't afford something like that.

The English translation is almost one of the last steps I do at the end of a vn, and I try to review it from start to finish, several times before publishing it. Now I will try to do everything in a more orderly and careful way to avoid so many mistakes. Maybe when I'm finishing my next work, I'll ask on my Twitter if someone would be willing to test it before I officially release it, in order to correct possible translation errors.

I don't want to bother anyone in vain either, so I'll try my best!

(+3)

You're most welcome, it's too good a project to not comment on! Don't get me wrong (in case I sounded too critical), the fact it wasn't even meant to be an extensive, fully-fledged visual novel game with immense intricacies only makes this project infinitely more of an achievement with how much it was able to fit in such a short time.

I don't feel that would've been boring at all (depending on the execution, of course), but the game turned out really good as it is without additional content so it's nothing to stress or fret about. As for the art, there's always room for improvement and development, after all, you'll get to the level of expertise you desire as long as you put in the time and effort, you clearly already have the passion and necessary base of skill down since the art turned out great as well!

In case I didn't put too much clarification in my previous message, I'm willing to help, proofread the English, and playtest, all without any payment at all. Being able to contribute to any games or projects and test them before releasing them to the public and polish them more would be an honor even without any payment, it's already a payment in itself to be of help. Dividing the work would lessen workload and allow you to complete more goals and projects more efficiently and effectively too since many one-person teams end up overexerting themselves and forgetting they're only human and need rest too.

Don't get me wrong once more in case I was too critical in my previous comment, you've already done a great job on the translation and everything without any extra help, but I have a personal philosophy of "the more, the merrier" (as long as that "more" is of contribution and not destruction, evidenced by many large dev teams that end up disbanding because of dramas). Regardless of whether you are or aren't interested in my offer though, I wish you all the best with your projects and everything at all and I sense you'll be an even larger and immensely more prosperous maker one day, remember to always take care and never overwork yourself through these processes (too many forget to do so)! My offer's always up, and it wouldn't be in vain at all, getting to polish projects would be an honor! Thank you for all the work you put into this, I'm genuinely in love with the story, art and everything!

(+1)

I thank you again for your words of encouragement and offer. You haven't been critical in a bad way, so I appreciate it!

I know that my work, specifically Koko, has many aspects that could be improved and I am aware of it. But I try to improve in every way. And it is true that many times it is too much work for me alone, luckily now that I have more practice I can speed up some things. I always read all the comments, even if I don't answer them, and I try to take note of the opinions or advice that you all give me.

And now that maybe someone is interested in my next visual novel, I could also ask some questions that maybe I couldn't before, to give me some confidence when it comes to capturing some things.

If I could, Koko would have lasted 2 or 3 times longer, with a lot more content. Or I would have revised the translation as well as added more details etc. But in addition to my lack of skill and practice, there is also the element of time.

I would not want someone to help me or "work" for me for free, because it would not seem fair. (Minimum, he/she would have my thanks in the credits). Although I do not deny that I would love the idea of having some internal feedback in the sense of being able to ask if this idea is good, or if this other one is better. If this design is good, or this other is better, etc. Since, for example, in addition to Dear Rebeca, I was developing about 3 more visual novels. But I paused or canceled them for X reason.

I'll try to have more communication about it, and consider doing some kind of "early access" with my current vn when it's more advanced.

Again, thank you for your offer and comment!

(+4)

I madly love this game and design, hopefully I can see more  interaction between Seiichi and Koko.     And more we can discover in this monster city Im curious about that.    I want to  say thank you this is a masterpiece I desire more stories(and Koko shes the best).

(+4)

Love it!

(+4)

I just wanted to say you did a very good job with this. it was very touching. hope to see more, but im not sure how you could make it better haha.

(+4)

I would love to see more of this game it made my day

(+5)

please conitue this story its great super super great It freaking awesome i love it, it's better than doki doki I could play the game over and over it's so amazing. I know this took alot of work, but please conitue this story, in my eyes your better than the pros

(+4)

If I made a sequel, I'd like to do everything much better (within my limited ability, of course).

I'll be writing ideas and designs for a possible sequel, though if I do, maybe I'd like to ask a few things for people interested in it on my twitter. For example, if it is preferable that I focus more on the romance, or on the 'horror', etc. Anything that comes to mind or news, I'll let you know.

Thank you very much for your comment!

(+3)

To be honest with ya it better be romantic

(+2)

it might be hard to make a sequel , what  DDLC did was pretty much expand on what they already had. AKA adding a few more routes and easter eggs and stuff. basically a revamp of the original game

(+2)

It is what I often think would be the best. But it is still too early to say for sure.

(+2)

Sure mate! Do not rush pls

(+1)

thank you some much for replying , the romance focus draw people in and the horror add the twist and and bring it together. It just my opion but love the fact that your able to mix horror and romance not many aristist can do it like you have, so please make more romance horror

(+1)

I have watch over a thousand anime and play over hunderd romance horror games the one thing that draw people is the romance and the horror that add the creepy twist, only thing I think we have saw just little more of koro monster form

(+1)

I'm a carrer school for animation if keep this up the story of koro  you will have people hooked, beacuse i know I am

(+2)

will you ever do a sequel. i hope u do. I've never been touched by how the story played out. it gave me so much inspiration like an insane amount. especially how my head was cluttered with thoughts i could not have thank you any more

(+1)

It was not in my plans to make any sequels, since I never thought that so many people would like it. (And that makes me happy).

Right now, I'm working on the first designs and script for my new vn. I want to set the vn in the same 'universe' as Koko, and maybe she'll show up somehow. (It's still too early to say anything).

But after receiving so many requests to expand on her story, I will seriously consider making a direct sequel. It all depends on whether I manage to do something worth enjoying.

Thank you!

(+3)

OMG thank makes me so happy THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Hello Eroraen I have a question about Miroku.

Is she based on some kind of bible angel?

(+2)

My original intention was to somehow allude to trypophobia by creating small eyes on her face. I also thought about putting a lot of small holes through the body, but I couldn't represent it in a way that I liked.

As with Koko, I wanted to give her a certain touch of arachnophobia, trying to imitate her fingers with the legs of spiders, fine and slender.

But you've made a good point with Miroku too!

(+1)

Thanks pal!

(+1)

Maybe you could integrate it as an idea

(+3)

I love the game too much that I want to request you to continue the story

I'm sorry if I'm demanding I just really like your novel and congrats on your game its in Manlybadasshero's video

(+2)

I never thought my story would have such an impact, so I didn't consider doing sequels when I wrote it. But I don't rule it out either!

Maybe I could do a shorter sequel with a new plot in the future. And even redo it from the beginning to add more content and extend what already exists. (Such as, for example, developing Miroku's character further).

After finishing my last vn, I was resting a bit. So for now I can only tell you, that I am trying to write down new ideas and designs for a new story set in the same 'universe'.

Thank you!

(+3)

Thank you so much and don't push yourself too hard. Good luck!

(1 edit) (+1)

I love the music in this game, do you have the OST posted anywhere for download and/or posted on YouTube?

In this case, the music I used is not mine. (I used the free tracks and credited the author in the about section). The original author is Kayvi, and the melodies are titled "ASYLUM vol.1". His songs can be found on Soundcloud and YouTube. ^^

I love this! This visual novel made me feel a way I can’t explain! It’s crazy how such a simple game can give you such strange yet nice warm feelings. There is only one other visual novel that I really like and it’s the legendary doki doki. Like doki doki it gave a unique feeling and a good balance of romance and horror that comes from within it. But believe it or not a particularly unique thing about your visual novel is the phrasing of words Koko uses. Idk if it was because of translation or if it was meant to be, but it really adds to Kokos personality the way she speaks. It makes her seem not generic and also very fitting of a caring and mellow monster girl that is in love with you! But if anything, please don’t burn yourself out or feel obligated to do anything else with the story. But if you continue it or make another visual novel/game I’ll be looking forward to it! Thank you for reading this if you do!

(+1)

I also loved Doki Doki! So reading that makes me very happy!

Regarding Koko, I tried to make each character more or less have their own personality and way of expressing themselves. English is not my main language, so I find it more difficult to express some things. Although I try to keep everything the same essence, of course.

I hope to improve on those aspects in the future as well, as I like the idea of making each character unique.

And about doing more with Koko, or in general, I would first need to think of something that I like enough to do it. Since to be honest, I try to create the visual novels that I myself would love to read, enjoy or catch my attention. (That's why I didn't expect so many people to like my stories either, haha.)

Thank you for writing to me!

(+1)

You have awsome taste then

(+2)

Awe thanks for the response ^-^.  I’m just glad your happy! I’m sure you’ll do great things with the next game!~~~

(+1)

Beautiful little game. I expected it to be a bit more horror but I absolutely enjoyed it. A really touching story. Thank you :) Keep it up!

I also would have liked to do it with a more horror tone! But I was afraid that it might not be enjoyable, so I hope to achieve that balance between horror and romance next time with everything I've learned.

Thank you!

(+1)

I really enjoyed this, thank yu for the wondaful experience. Was part way thou Manlybadasshero's when I looked in the description and saw the link =>

I saw the Manlybadasshero had made a video of this game, but before watching the video I decided to play it on my own.

It was a good decision, I had fun reading this novel, I was somehow immersed in the world, I liked the idea of having non-human species living in their own society, and I was immersed in the story that was told, I found it very interesting the whole romantic conflict and the little mysteries, it was really a good experience, I imagine it must have been difficult to have done all this. I only don't get it what was the Miroku's true intentions.

Ps: I'm still learning english, so i'm sorry for any english mistakes on the text

(+2)

As I mentioned before, the most difficult thing for me is still the art section. It was the first time I did something so “complex”, and I would have liked in fact, to even add a third character to make more endings and scenes. Hopefully I can fix many of those mistakes in the future.

Thanks for the feedback!

(+4)

Wonderful game, out of curiosity are you planning on adding any more to it? Seemed like there was more to Miroku and you introduced Lune at the very end.

(+2)

After seeing such a positive reception, I have been thinking of several ideas about it. Maybe I'll do one more vn with a similar theme, since it's something that I personally like too.

Originally, I wanted to make it much longer, but I thought it might be boring for some people if I focused too much on dialogue. That's why Miroku doesn't have much development. As for Lune, it's just a little "easter egg", since I like to refer to some character from my previous novel. (Koko also appears somewhere in DR).
And thanks!

(+1)

I've watched someone play it and I LOVED it. I have felt a lot of emotions and you've made my day! :D
Love u <3

(+2)

Thanks for your kind words! I am glad to know that you enjoyed it so much. :)

(+1)

Thank you very much for this masterpiece

(+2)

English is not my first language so some of it might not sound in a right way.

Honestly, you deserve much more attention - artwork is incredible and owerall story is exciting! I'm sorry, I might repeat some of the comments, but I only came here afterwatching Manlybadasshero's playthrough of your game... I fell in love with it (I mean your game and art work). I can imagine how hard it was - writing a story, characters etc. Thank you very much for all your work and effort! Hope I will see more of your works in time, thank you once more :) Have a great day!

(+2)

English is also not my main language (so I also apologize for any translation errors).

In fact, I was close to not finishing it, since I didn't think it was done well enough, haha. It took me quite a while to learn to do everything by myself (the code, drawings, etc), but seeing this kind of comments makes me feel that it was worth the effort and time invested!

(+1)

Very romantic and i was feeling tense as to who to trust, luckily i made the right call :D very nice game

(+5)

hey, i just started watching Manlybadasshero play your game and it’s honestly unfair how little attention your work has gotten till now!

you deserve some, so congrats on having your game make it on his channel!^^

(+4)

Really? I had no idea. I was not entirely convinced with the final result, so reading you has made me quite happy! Thank you! :)

(+1)

you can watch it now! :3 of course, you’re very welcome!<3

(+3)

I also saw this game from manlybadasshero but didn't whatch the entire video cuz i wanted to play it by myself, Eroraen u did a great job with this story! Are you gonna make more of these kind of games?

(+1)

Koko for me started as a test, since I didn't know how to program or draw almost anything at that time. I didn't think so many people would enjoy it, to be honest. So, for me, it is quite a surprise! Since then, I try to learn more and add more details to future projects to improve. I hope to continue making at least a few more visual novels.
Thank you for such positive feedback! :)

(+1)

Is there a way to download directly the game?

I'm trying to play with a emulator on a Android device and I don't think there's a way to start the installer.

I have uploaded the game in a .zip file without the installer. I don't know if it's exactly what you need. But if you're trying to play it on Android, it's also available directly on the Play Store. If not, let me know so I can see how I can help you. Thank you! ^^

(+1)

Thanks, it's exactly what I need!

now I can play it, yay!

Thanks for the help, i really didn't find a solution for the installer so this saves me a lot of time

(+1)

Also on my device the google services are disabled since it was made cuz Huawei it's making a their own appstore
